Youth Art Month Celebration exhibit and reception:
Indianapolis Statehouse: Sunday, March 7th
Set up: 11 a.m./ Reception: 2:30 p.m.
Dismantling: Sunday, March 28th at 11 a.m.
- I am asking you to thin your entries to three only this year. The display boards & grids we have previously borrowed are no longer available. You’re A.E.A.I. board has started purchasing our own display boards but it will take years to match the square footage we used before. This year there will be ¼ the display space. The A.E.A.I. webpage and information handed out at our state conference needed to be changed from the usual five pieces. Try to select pieces 12”x 18” or smaller (high school…we know your pieces may be larger). www.aeai.org
- A space saving idea: Remember that some art teachers like to display color photo copies of the original artwork and this will save on space too. This is also helpful if you want to show 3-d work.
- Only A.E.A.I. members can display art in this show. This is different than in the past. If your fellow art teachers wish to join in on our show then they will need to join first…this can be done on our website!
- High school art teachers can choose to have their work judged by a Herron faculty member. This is a transitional year for this change so artwork needs to be clearly labeled with a post-it note if the teacher wishes for it to be simply displayed or considered for an award by the judge.
- The label includes a brief artist’s statement. You will find the label form on our website so you can make copies. This is for all level entries. Now, more than ever, we students to ‘voice’ their learning experiences.
- Set up starts at 11 a.m. on March 7th with the reception at 2:30 p.m. on the same day. Take down begins at 11 a.m. on the last Sunday of the month. We need volunteers for both times. There will be a more systematic plan for take down. You must sign everything out.
- Artwork should be mailed by Feb. 16th or hand delivered to the Statehouse on Mar. 7th. There are specific directions on the website as to the mailer labeling for return shipping. Loose stamps for return postage simply get lost too easily. sperry@tsc.k12.in.us
Mail by February 16th to: Sue Perry, YAM Chair
3705 Gamble Lane
Lafayette, IN 47909
Return postage needs to be affixed to the reverse side of your mailer so it isn’t lost.
Art teachers are encouraged to send out invitations to the artists' parents as soon as possible to ensure our reception getting onto family calendars early. Please invite your own legislators to view the art and attend the reception.
